PROGRAM MISSION

The Mission of the HVAC & R Program is to introduce and prepare students for entry level employment in the field of residential or commercial heating and air system needs..

The program purpose is to provide classroom instruction in conjunction with clinical shop area experience that can be assessed for improvement and success. The graduate should be prepared to install, diagnose, repair and maintain the operational condition of domestic systems.

STUDENT MISSION

The HVACR program student can gain the training and knowledge through approved curriculum that meets the program goals and supports the mission of the program. Students will have the opportunity to academically learn and clinically train in all areas of HVACR, in program materials, equipment and live work projects in preparation for employment within the field.

The curriculum includes the basic electrical theory and basic refrigeration theory needed to repair and maintain HVAC/R systems. Students apply classroom theory to lab assignments and perform live work projects to troubleshoot and repair HVAC/R systems. Both residential central HVAC systems and commercial refrigeration systems are part of the curriculum. Students are given hands-on experience in installation and refrigerant management. Before any hands-on training, safe and efficient work practices are taught and must be utilized. Cooperative training is available during the course of the curriculum. Upon completion of segments of the program, students are eligible to sit for the EPA Refrigerant Certification Test and/or the HVAC Excellence Electrical Proficiency.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Due to the demand for new residential, commercial, and industrial climate control systems, the employment of heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration technicians is high and is expected to increase in the future. Energy conservation and environmental concerns lead to the replacement of older systems and the installation of newer, more efficient systems in existing homes and buildings. This increases the demand for service technicians in installation, maintenance, and repair.
